AN annual Santa fun run in memory of a young woman who died from cancer has been hailed a success by the event’s organisers.
Manvers Waterfront Boat Club hosted the event earlier this month in memory of Hana Szczepkowski who died of cancer aged only 31.
The event was attended by over 140 runners, from the very young to those in their 80s.
Funds were raised for cancer charity Team Vericco, who supported Hana during her illness.
Mark Benton, chair of the Manvers-based club, said: “Seeing the community come together and embrace the holiday spirit while making a difference in people’s lives is truly heartwarming.
“We are incredibly proud of the success of this annual Santa Dash.
“We are grateful to everyone who signed up to take part, not forgetting the volunteers who helped make the event a triumph.”
Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey opened the event, and said: “It was great to see so many people taking part in the Santa Dash at Manvers Lake raising funds for the cancer charity Team Vericco.
“The dash is something I always look forward to coming along to and it really kicks off the festive season.
“Thank you to everyone involved for organising such a fantastic community event.”
