A PAIR of avid fundraising groups are celebrating this Christmas after smashing their targets and raising more than £20,000 for Barnsley Hospice.

The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in Kingstone at 1pm every Thursday and have held fundraisers from auctioning off pork pies to weekly events in a mission to initially raise £1,000 for the hospice.

They hosted their Christmas get-together last week – and a final push means the group have raised a total of £10,868 for the hospice over the last two years.

Then on Tuesday, members of the Top O’Doderth Bottom Club met for their Christmas party to celebrate raising £10,335 for the charity over the last 18 months.

Judy Holling, who has previously been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award, is a regular attendee of both groups.

She said: “The fact we’ve managed to raise more than £21,000 is great.

“I’ve managed to raise £10,000, too.

“This is just old folk coming together and raising so much money for the hospice.

“We all want to say thank you to al the people that have supported us and helped us to raise this much money.”
