A 35-YEAR-OLD Barnsley man has been jailed after pleading guilty to a series of violent offences including rape and non-fatal strangulation.

Jamie Goose, of Acre Road in Barnsley, has been sentenced to a total of 14 years after appearing in Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.

The court heard how on April 24 2023 Goose bombarded the victim’s phone with messages and telephone calls making threats stating “you’ll be crying tonight”. Goose then attended the victim’s house in the late hours of the same evening and subjected her to a four-hour ordeal where he made threats towards her and broke into her home by smashing his way through the rear patio door.

Goose, equipped with an axe and knife, then followed the victim upstairs where he strangled her and continued to verbally abuse her.

Goose followed her around the property where he eventually raped her where he told her that she “deserved to be treated like that” before fleeing the address.

Shortly after fleeing he again texted the victim stating “this what you wanted finally push me over the edge”.

Goose pleaded guilty to rape, non-fatal strangulation and possession of an offensive weapon at Sheffield Crown Court on October 11.
