THE people of Wombwell and Barnsley have really dug deep over the last 12 months and come together to raise a fantastic £2,656.66 for Barnsley Independent Alzheimers and Dementia Support (BIADS).
Some of the pubs in the centre of Wombwell saw three music events take place during the year, which were organised by Helen Taylor and were supported by the landlords of The Old Town Hall, Locky’s Bar, Squires’ Bar, Butchers’ Bar, The Horseshoe – JD Wetherspoon and the George Hotel.
The events featured local bands who entertained customers for free whilst volunteers went around the pubs with their collection buckets.
Louise Bligh, who is the volunteer and fundraising coordinator for BIADS, said: “The people out and about in Wombwell were so generous, friendly and welcoming and we loved meeting and chatting to them all. The atmosphere was electric and everyone had a fantastic time. On behalf of BIADS I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who played a part in the events. Cheers everyone, you are all amazing and we’ll see you all next year.”
