A special visitor was in attendance as budding actors performed ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ in front of a bumper crowd last week.

The Take 2 Performing Arts Academy performed the show at the Academy Theatre in Birdwell recently.

The show is based upon the true-life story of 16-year-old British schoolboy Jamie Campbell, as he overcomes prejudice and bullying to step out of the darkness and become a drag queen.

The real-life Jamie Campbell, from Sheffield, was in attendance – much to the delight of those performing.

A spokesperson for the group told the Chronicle: “Jamie contacted us a couple of weeks ago requesting to come and see the show – at first, we thought it was someone playing a prank but much to our delight he turned up on our Thursday evening performance.

“We had kept it a secret from the kids as we didn’t want them to be nervous but the rumour spread on the evening of the show and we had to tell them during the interval.

“They were so excited and lots of tears were shed.

“After the show Jamie stayed and spoke to the kids and had photos with them all – it was really special.

“His story is beautiful and we are so happy that he made the effort to come and see the show – he was absolutely brilliant with the kids.”
