BIG Local Thurnscoe organised a Battle of Britain event to honour the veterans of World War Two and help face growing health inequalities at the weekend.

Taking place on Sunday at St Helen’s Church Hall, the day was designed to encourage older locals to get out of the house, socialise and have a good time at the 1940s-themed party while remembering those who fought for our country.

With over 70 attendees the day was a great success, as visitors enjoyed afternoon tea and live music from the Dearne Big Band.

Allison Vine, development worker at Big Local Thurnscoe, said: “The Battle of Britain event was a fantastic opportunity for our older residents, their families and veterans in the community to come together and enjoy an afternoon of 40s-themed entertainment.

“It was wonderful to see people chatting, enjoying their afternoon tea and having a dance and we hope to host more events for all the community in the future.”
