THE people of Barnsley are being given more opportunities to get their blood pressure checked - including in barber shops.

This new push is part of the council’s ‘How’s Thi Ticker’ initiative, which aims to improve heart care in the area.

With the help of the NHS, they have been putting up free blood pressure checks in highly-visited places across Barnsley, including high streets, markets and barber shops.

Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “We’re using smart ways to figure out where there might be a higher risk of high blood pressure in the community.

“By going out to local people, whether that be at their local market or where they get their hair cut, I’m delighted to see many residents taking up the offer and learning more about their blood pressure.

“Getting a blood pressure check is quick, easy and could save your life - so I would encourage anyone who hasn’t had theirs checked recently to come speak to the team at one of our events.”
