A DEFIBRILLATOR has been installed in Stairfoot in memory of a former Barnsley Football Club player’s dad.

Jeff Austin – whose son Neil clocked up more than 100 appearances for the Reds – died on July 25 last year whilst on holiday.

The family raised £1,100 for a life-saving defibrillator – which delivers shocks to those in cardiac arrest – and unveiled it on what would have been Jeff’s 65th birthday on Tuesday.

Neil, sister Katie and his mum, Kath, secured permission – with help from the Ardsley and Stairfoot Ward Alliance – to have it installed at Lynton House, a dental surgery at Stairfoot.

Kath said: “Our family would like to say a big thank you to all our family and friends for their kind donations helping to raise £1,100 which went towards the defibrillator.

“We would also like to thank Ardsley and Stairfoot Ward Alliance and the council for their ongoing support.”
