A SOAPSTAR visited a domestic abuse support group in New Lodge on Tuesday to raise awareness of domestic violence and lend a hand to charity members.

Resolute Women’s Support Group currently hold meetings in different venues across the borough and are hopeful to set up another group in Worsbrough from next month.

Coronation Street actress Sally Carman, originally from Mexborough, who plays the role of Abi Franklin in the ITV drama, stopped by at Resolute after approaching its founder, Deborah Jones, to find out more about the group and how they operate.

Sally – who is now a patron for Resolute – said visiting one of the group sessions in Barnsley was a ‘no-brainer’ after seeing her friend in a situation where she required Deborah’s help.

She added: “There is little to virtually no support for women who’ve fled an abusive relationship, which is why the charity want to do what they can so women know they’re not alone.

“Fleeing an abusive relationship can be very daunting – no-one deserves to be alone through that ordeal.

“Hopefully they’ll get another up and running in the coming weeks and even more women will be able to find some comfort.”
