TRIBUTES have been paid to former councillor Jenny Platts who stepped down from her role earlier this month.
Jenny was the councillor for St Helen’s ward for 15 years as well as a community volunteer and campaigner for more than a quarter of a century.
Coun Neil Wright, who took over from Jenny earlier this month, said she retired from her role to spend more time with her husband, Tom, and her children and grandchildren.
He added: “Jenny has dedicated her life to bringing up her family and serving and working within the community of Athersley and New Lodge and the wider community of St Helen’s and Barnsley.
“We wholeheartedly thank her for her commitment and determination in helping to bringing life changing initiatives to St Helen’s, The Roundhouse Medical Centre, The Roundhouse Life Long Learning Centre and much more.
“Jenny has been instrumental in keeping our public services local and helping local groups with the aim of improving our community to make life better for everyone that lives here.
“We wish her a long and happy retirement with her family and look forward to seeing her out and about in St Helen’s ward in the near future.”
