LOCAL councillors, an MP and veterans attended the blessing of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment memorial bench in Monk Bretton earlier this month.
Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis joined Fr Darren Percival, of St Paul’s Church, along with councillors Steve Green and Ken Richardson, veterans from The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, Coun Joe Hayward and a local volunteer Margaret Sheard to witness the blessing of the bench in Monk Bretton’s war memorial garden.
Dan said: “It was an honour to attend and speak at the blessing of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment memorial bench which ensures the memory of our brave service personnel who gave their lives whilst serving our country is not lost.
“We must never forget their sacrifice and bravery.
“Thank you to everyone involved, it’s always inspiring to see our community come together in commemoration.”
