A LEADING light in Barnsley education has died aged 85.
Anne Sanderson worked for many years in Barnsley schools, specialising in language development and English.
Anne, who lived in Hoyland Common, was also – for more than a decade – an influential secretary of Worsbough Bridge Bowling Club.
But it was in the area of education that Anne made her biggest impact having started as a teacher at Birdwell Primary School, before becoming a senior adviser in Barnsley, working across both primary and secondary sectors.
“She was renowned for the quality of her work with schools in developing children’s speaking and writing,” said her former colleague John Gaskin.
“There will be many people throughout Barnsley who remember Anne as a trusted and inspiring colleague.
“Her biggest desire was to make a difference to countless lives through high-quality education – she succeeded.”
Anne is survived by Bob, her husband of 65 years, her daughters Jackie and Jane, and five grandchildren.
