BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis is urging the BBC to reconsider their decision on cuts to local radio stations.
Under proposals announced on Monday, 39 local BBC radio stations in England would share more shows.
Dan told the Chronicle: “I’m deeply concerned to hear about proposed cuts to BBC local radio services.
“In good times and bad, local radio plays a vital role reflecting local experiences and delivering local news.
“I’ll always remember the brilliant job Radio Sheffield did covering the flooding in South Yorkshire in 2019 and no one will forget the incredible job journalists did a few weeks ago, holding Liz Truss to account by asking the difficult questions that matter to their listeners.
“Without these journalists and stations, we’re at risk of losing the voices of local communities.
“I’d urge the BBC to think again and urgently reconsider their proposals and save these important regional stations.”
