TARGETED patrols will continue at Mapplewell Park following yet another deliberate blaze at the site.

Firefighters from Cudworth station were called at 9pm, following reports of a blaze.

Upon arrival at 9pm, the crew extinguished a deliberate bin fire.

Peter Robinson, a PCSO for the east neighbourhood team, said: “Targeted and frequent high-visibility patrols are to be continued to the park area in Mapplewell due to an increase in reports from the location.

“Groups of youths are suspected to be taking wheelie bins to the location and setting them on fire in the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

“This is not just causing acts of criminal damage to the equipment in the park but it also presents a fire risk.

“Last week police officers, PCSOs, council wardens and youth workers were on directed foot patrols engaging with local youths and members of the public.

“However, there has been another fire at the location within the last 24 hours.

“If you have any information that could assist us in our enquiries then please contact 101 or alternatively report the matter online.”
