POLICE are warning residents of the dangers of open water swimming following a tragedy in Doncaster.

Officers patrolled Manvers Lake at the weekend and asked people to stay away from the water - but many ignored the force’s plea.

A body was found at Lakeside in Doncaster on Saturday after a man in his twenties went missing in the water.

A police spokesperson said: “We have advised people in the water regarding the dangers but unfortunately some adults and children ignored the warnings.

“Following the tragedy at Lakeside, we do not want any more lives lost.

“Please enjoy the heat wave safely.”
