YOUNG skateboarding and rollerskating enthusiasts are being encouraged to get involved in free lessons at a Worsbrough skate park.
Running every Wednesday 5.30pm to 7pm, and set up by charitable organisations Youth Association and LS-TEN, the lessons will take place at Ward Green Skate Park and are open to 11 to 18 year olds.
Faye Dolan, lead youth worker for Youth Association’s Barnsley projects, said: “We currently do our work in four out of five of the wards in Barnsley – Worsbrough, Kingstone, Central and Stairfoot.
“These lessons are all about empowering young people to learn a new skill, and also to encourage more young women to use the skate park.
“They have expressed an interest in it, but can find it intimidating, which is one of the main reasons why have have mainly female instructors leading the lessons.
“Those interested won’t have to bring anything with them, all the equipment is provided, and we’ll be bringing drinks and snacks down too.”
The lessons will run weekly over the school summer holiday period.
