A BARNSLEY MP has launched a short survey for residents to complete regarding local bus routes.

Miriam Cates, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, has said improving local transport services across her constituency is one of her top priorities.

She said: “Whilst our region has seen significant government investment in transport infrastructure, including a £570 million five-year funding settlement devolved to SYMCA, a continued decline in passenger numbers and the ending of the additional pandemic funding, has introduced challenges for local bus services.

“Over the coming months I’ll be working with all parts of government to help deliver the funding, and innovation, we need to deliver better bus services.

“Good transport has never just been about getting from A to B but about connecting people with well-paid jobs, training and education, hospital appointments, shops and other people, and it’s central to the development and sustainability of our local communities and the opportunities available to the everyone who lives in them.”
