SOUTH Yorkshire Police closed the M1 near Barnsley on Friday night following concerns for a man on the bridge.
The M1 was closed in both directions between junction 36 for Tankersley and junction 35 towards Barnsley.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 9.39pm to reports of a concern for the safety of a man on a bridge over the M1 at junction 36 in Barnsley.
“The motorway was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.”
The area reopened at around 3am on Saturday morning.
