BARNSLEY CCG is encouraging residents to not leave it until the last minute to pick up their prescriptions ahead of next week’s bank holiday break.

From Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5, there will be an extended break due to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Most GP practices will be running reduced opening hours and so the CCG are asking people to order and collect their repeat prescriptions early.

Dr Madhavi Guntamukkala, medical director at NHS Barnsley CCG, said “We want to ensure everyone with long-term health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease, enjoys the extended break and doesn’t run out of their essential medicines.

“However, should you need us, there will be a small number of pharmacists available throughout the bank holiday and GP appointments will be available with iHEART Barnsley.

“Bank holiday periods can be a very busy time for local health services, so picking up a repeat prescription in advance and knowing which services are available could help to keep staff free to deal with life-threatening emergencies.”
