BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis has called for a new approach from Barnsley FC’s owners following relegation to League One.
The Reds were relegated last week after losing 2-1 to Huddersfield – and former coach Poya Asbaghi resigned just days later.
Responding to the club’s relegation to the third tier of English football, Dan said: “The inevitable confirmation of Barnsley’s relegation caps off what has been a hugely difficult season, both on and off the pitch.
“I know from countless conversations with very long-standing fans that they are feeling bitterly disappointed — not just by the results, but in the manner of defeat.
“Poya Asbaghi’s decision to depart the club is the right one.
“Now, the urgent focus must be on appointing a new management team and rebuilding ahead of next season; as well as a fundamentally new approach from the owners.
“Barnsley fans expect us to be pushing for promotion at the first time of asking.
“It is the least they, and the wider town, deserve.”
