A MIDWIFE from Barnsley Hospital who raised millions for charity has embarked on another fundraiser to help new mums.

Paula Maguire was inspired to ‘do something positive’ after her mum passed away from Covid-19 in October, and has raised more than £300 so far to add to renovations and equipment on the ward she works on to create a home from home environment.

The 47-year-old spearheaded the ice bucket challenge several years ago – which gripped the country – and raised about £7m for motor neurone disease research.

Paula completed a 12-day squat challenge in a different festive outfit each day on the run-up to Christmas, and posted videos of her merry workouts on social media.

“Because we’re doing up the ward I wanted to raise some money to make it as homely as possible for mums and babies,” she said.

“I wanted to have something to focus on for myself, but also something to bring a bit of Christmas joy.

“I got tonnes of comments on my outfit choices – the Christmas tree outfit definitely made people laugh.

“The Christmas hat I had on in my first video was actually one which belonged to my mum.

“I’m just glad to raise money for the ward and hopefully the donations will keep going.”
