A VAN was seized over the weekend after the owner was found not to have a waste carrier's licence.

A waste carrier's licence applies to any business who transports waste to licenced dump sites.

Without a licence, it becomes illegal for you to transport, and dispose of someone else's waste.

The council's fly-tipping branch – Dump-it and Scarper- is urging residents to check that the people they pay to remove their waste is a licenced carrier.

A spokesperson for the service said: “Want to help us tackle fly-tipping? If you're paying someone to remove your waste, don't forget that they need to have the proper licence.

“If you suspect that someone may be dumping waste, or have any information about fly-tippers in our borough, please contact safer@barnsley.gov.uk.”
