A local clothing store has raised more than £4,000 to help transform a ward at the hospital.

Staff at Primark in the Alhambra Centre raised £4,850 for the Make A Memory Appeal.

The appeal aims to raise £300,000 to help transform the care of the elderly ward at the hospital.

It hopes to provide a homely and relaxing environment to help support patients with dementia.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital Charity said: “It was a real privilege for us to be Primark's 'Charity of the Year'.

“The team 'checked out' with a phenomenal £4,850 for our Make A Memory Appeal. “They worked so hard to overcome the barriers that the pandemic brought to fundraising and came up with some fantastic ideas.

“A massive thank you to everyone at Primark and all who supported their tremendous efforts.”
