MORE than 340kg of food has been saved from going to landfill since the opening of Barnsley’s first community fridge earlier this month.

The fridge is situated in the Mapplewell and Staincross Village Hall and since it was opened at the start of November more than 342kg of food has been saved.

The fridge has also been officially handed a 5 food hygiene rating.
