MORE than 4,000 places were made available for children at holiday clubs as part of the council’s Healthy Holidays programme.

Barnsley Council worked with 16 club providers who helped create 30 holidays clubs - and 4,372 places were available for kids during last week’s half-term.

Last Thursday, Mayor of Barnsley Coun Caroline Makinson, Coun Jenny Platts and Coun Sarah Tattersall attended one of the holiday clubs at Laithes Primary School.

Coun Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: “It was brilliant to be able to visit one of the Healthy Holidays clubs and to see first-hand the activities taking place.

“The children had a fantastic time, and it was great to see not just how we’re supporting families during the holidays, but also how much children and young people were enjoying the holiday clubs.”

Preparations are underway for the next scheme over the Christmas break.
