AN EVENT was held at Barnsley DMC on Thursday to launch a new project as part of the Government's 'levelling up' scheme.
Technology Ecosystem Acceleration and Market-making South Yorkshire (TEAM SY) launched the project - which is part of a wider £4.6m TEAM SY project - to help boost tech entrepreneurs across the area.
The event at the DMC featured a guest speech from Marta Krupinska, head of Google for Statups UK, showcased upcoming streams of work, and brought together those leading on entrepreneurial support in the region together to share insights.
Coun Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to launch such an important project here at Barnsley’s DMC.
"The mission is to help new and early stage South Yorkshire businesses take best advantage of what support is available to them and to invest in and build the regional strengths such as internet of things, advanced manufacturing, and digital health for example.
“We’re delighted Barnsley is at the heart of the programme and we’ll soon be sharing details on upcoming activity such as a programme for early stage internet of things entrepreneurs, in partnership with Yorkshire based network provider Connexin that will be based at the MakerLab in the DMC.”
Darren Balcombe, deputy CEO of Capital Enterprise said: “We are very excited about working in South Yorkshire to help expand and improve the existing business support and investment ecosystem - and bring new resources and expertise into the mix.
“TEAM SY is a key project that demonstrates how South Yorkshire is working to further grow its high value digital and tech cluster.
"Ahead of the Government’s Levelling Up White Paper, the event provided the perfect platform for networking and collaboration with future partners, raising the profile of the region and showcasing exciting new opportunities.”
