POLICE offers hope to clamp down on off-road biking throughout Locke Park after receiving reports of bikers in the area.

The South Yorkshire Police Off Road Team discovered that illegal bikers had driven up and down the steps near to the tower.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Following the Trans Pennine Trail around Barnsley we called in a Locke Park.

“There have been reports of motorbikes riding through this lovely place, up and down the steps to the Tower, a Grade II listed building, only been here for 150 years.

“We have been passed info on who’s responsible and will be following up the leads.

“The café in the park has also had kids jumping on the roof at closing time intimidating the staff. “We will be sure to include it in our patrol route as the nights draw in.”
