A SELECTION of college apprentices have been nominated for a prestigious award.

Barnsley College has also been nominated for 'Provider of the Year' at the Sheffield City Region apprenticeship awards.

The event, which is held every year, supports apprentices, employers and training providers across the region.

The college's nomination demonstrates that they have helped apprentices gain qualifications and develop key skills through their schemes.

Joe Cartwright and Dominic Blood have been nominated in the health and public service apprenticeship award category, whilst Kallum Frost has been shortlisted for the Covid Hero award.

Yiannis Koursis, principal and chief executive, said: "We are so pleased to have been nominated for this prestigious award, which highlights our ongoing dedication to boosting employability and vocational education in the local region.

"Our shortlisting, both as a college and through our fantastic apprentices, is a testament to our tutors and teaching staff, who have worked tirelessly through challenging circumstances to ensure that our students have access to the knowledge they require and the opportunities they deserve."
