THE number of people testing positive for coronavirus in Barnsley is decreasing.

The latest figures (August 20) show that 10.5 per cent of residents taking a PCR test - where swabs have to be sent to a lab - are getting a positive result.

This has decreased from 11.9 per cent the previous week.

Thousands of Lateral Flow Tests - which provide results within an hour - are also being taken in Barnsley every day.

Since the start of the pandemic more than 547,000 tests have been taken - almost 50,000 of those have been this month.
