THIRTEEN proved to be a lucky number for a Barnsley man who managed to win more than £8,000 from a £1 bet last weekend.
Keaton Haddock, 20, decided to put a 13-fold football accumulator on after heading to Castleford for a night out – a bet he described himself as ‘speculative’.
But it wasn’t even a winner until the 95th minute when Will Keane grabbed a late goal for Wigan Athletic at home to Rotherham United – netting Keaton £8,120 from just £1.
He said: “You could say me and my mate had a great night out.
“We got in around 3am – unsurprisingly I can’t remember the exact time, but it was a good night even though I don’t really remember where we went.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with the money though, but when I told my dad he just said ‘well done’, and my mum said ‘remember that I love you’ which is some big hint that she does expect me to get her a present.
“It was just a speculative thing that I threw a pound on.
“I’d forgotten all about it until I noticed Wycombe had won and they were on the list – then I checked the others and was waiting on Wigan who kept the bet alive with the later winner.”
