COMMUNITY groups across South Yorkshire could receive their share of £200,000 of funding to help prevent young people from being involved in violence.
The money was awarded by the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit and will be received by 13 community groups in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield.
In Barnsley, funding has been awarded to the Youth Association for their StreetSmart initiative that will provide support for young people at street level.
Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: “It’s great news for Barnsley and to The Youth Association, who have been awarded funding for their StreetSmart initiative - a setting where parents, schools and most other services have little reach.
“We will continue to work with our partners through our Joining Forces scheme, to ensure that we provide support to our community groups, so that they can continue their brilliant work with young adults across the borough.”
