BARNSLEY kicked off their Championship campaign with a point against promotion rivals Cardiff City.

Markus Schopp’s first competitive game in charge of the Reds ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Schopp used the 3-4-3 system he had used during pre-season, with left wing-back Ben Williams making his first appearance in 400 days.

The Reds thought they had taken the lead in the 51st minute after Frieser put the ball past Cardiff keeper Phillips - but the offside flag went up.

Just minutes later and Marlon Pack headed in a Bluebirds corner to give the home side the lead.

But it wasn’t the winner as Toby Sibbick fired in from the edge of the area to get the equaliser and his first Reds goal.

Barnsley’s next Championship game is on Saturday where they will face Coventry City at Oakwell.
