A MUM from Barnsley abseiled from a 100-metre tower to raise funds for a charity which supports people – like her son – who lives with type one diabetes.
Jane Warburton – a midwife based at Barnsley Hospital – has a fear of heights but took the leap for her 16-year-old son Isaac to raise money for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF).
She completed the descent down the side of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower.
Jane said: “I watch Isaac get up every day and repeatedly have to scan, carb count and inject.
“It’s an emotional and physical rollercoaster but there’s no option but to carry on – he has no other choice.
“He keeps positive, is self-disciplined and motivated.
“At times he’s angry and sometimes disheartened but is always hopeful for a cure.
“Isaac gave me the motivation to take on a personal challenge and make a difference.
“I hope to make him and my family proud of me and in the process raise money for this amazing charity.”
