A 43-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following an aggravated burglary in Elsecar.

On Friday (July 23) at 1.17pm, armed officers were called to Welland Crescent following reports that a man was in possession of a firearm.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Kevin Matthews, of Oak Close, was charged with criminal damage, robbery and possession of an imitation firearm on Saturday (July 24).

“He was also charged with section 18 assault and theft relating to a separate incident which took place earlier in the day on Friday.

“Matthews appeared in court on Monday, July 26, and was remanded in custody until his next hearing.”
