BARNSLEY started their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 away win against League Two Rochdale.

The Reds travelled to the Crown Oil Arena on Wednesday in a behind-closed-doors game - and Markus Schopp recorded his first victory as Barnsley manager.

Carlton Morris opened the scoring in the first half with a smart header from Cauley Woodrow’s corner.

The Reds doubled their lead just minutes later as defender Liam Kitching grabbed his first Reds goal after a quick corner routine caught out Rochdale.

The home side managed to pull a goal back in the second half from the penalty spot.
