STAFF at a Thurnscoe school who delivered food packages for pupils stuck at home during the pandemic have been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award.
The team at The Hill Primary School, on Tudor Street, have been described as going ‘above and beyond’ by parents after making fortnightly calls to homes during the first coronavirus lockdown.
Teachers also held wellbeing assemblies online to ensure that pupils were learning and coping last year.
Emma Cadman, the principal, said that the children are central to every decision made.
She said: “Like every school across the borough, this year has been incredibly tough. It was so important for us to keep connected and maintain as much normality as possible whilst being safe.
“During the lockdown we offered remote learning packages so that no student was missing out on important learning.
“We also checked in with all of our families at least once every two weeks to make sure they had everything they needed.
“A lot of our amazing staff delivered food packages to families in need. We had to be there for our community during a tough time.”
The school offered a variety of classes online for students that focussed on wellbeing and being active.
“We held Joe Wicks-style classes with our amazing PE teacher tailored to our students.
“We had a strong focus on wellbeing both with our students and amongst the team. We ensured to regularly check in with this.”
The team at The Hill Primary School has been nominated in the School of the Year category at this year’s Proud of Barnsley awards.
Emma added: “We’re so immensely proud of this nomination and we can’t thank people enough for thinking of us.
“What we’ve always wanted at the school is togetherness and a sense of community.
“Hopefully we’ve achieved it.”
