OFFICERS who are attempting to clamp down on antisocial behaviour in Darfield were dismayed to find that warning signs across the area were stolen on Friday.

The signs were installed on Inkerman Field and School Street to act as a warning to offenders, and reminded them that officers have the power to seize vehicles involved in antisocial behaviour.

A spokesperson for the Barnsley South Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Unfortunately, persons unknown have seen fit to remove these signs, and we can only hazard a guess as to their rationale behind doing so.

“This does not detract from the fact that these locations are still subjected to Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, and as such any vehicles found on them to be causing a nuisance will be seized on the spot without warning or discussion.”
