RESIDENTS in Barnsley will have their say on who represents them at the local government and Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May.

To vote in these important elections on May 6, residents must be on the electoral register.

With the deadline to register to vote fast approaching, council bosses have urged people who have not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered in time.

This year, residents will be voting in a total of two different elections and will pick upcoming councillors and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) who oversees the local police force.

Peter Clark, electoral registration officer for Barnsley Council, said: “Time is running out to make sure you can take part in these elections.

“They are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Barnsley.

“If you’re not registered by April, you won’t be able to vote.”

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on April 19.
