AS ANTENATAL classes have been cancelled at Barnsley Hospital due to the pandemic, the midwifery team are set to host an online class for expectant parents.

The hospital’s usual Active Birth sessions have halted, instead it will be available through video-call site Zoom.

The class is most suited to women (and couples) from 32 weeks and will cover optimal fetal positioning, stages of labour and pain relief.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital said: “Many of you are probably using various video calling apps already to keep in touch with family and friends.

“We will be using Zoom to set up a video call between two midwives at the hospital and individuals and couples booked at Barnsley.

“You will need to have the Zoom app on your phone, tablet or computer. If you would like to join our Zoom Antenatal Class, please send an email on the morning of the session to bdg-tr.activebirthsessionsmaternity@nhs.net with your name and how many weeks you are.

“Due to the limited spaces, you will receive an email back by noon confirming your place and instructions on how to join.

“If you are unsuccessful this week, you will still receive a reply.”

The online antenatal class will start at 5.30pm on March 3.
