GRITTERS were out in force this weekend, helping to keep major routes free from snow and ice.
So far, more than 3,000 tonnes of salt have been spread across the borough throughout the winter months – just a quarter of the 12,000 tonnes of salt Barnsley Council has stored.
Gritting crews have been out every day over the weekend in preparation for a spell of bad weather that has been forecast to hit Barnsley this weekend.
According to information from weather.com, snow is forecast across the borough on Saturday and Sunday.
