TWO people have been charged in connection to the robbery of a teenager in Barnsley.

On January 15, a 16-year-old boy was reportedly robbed on Middlesex Street at around 7.25pm.

The incident left the 16-year-old with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Nial Fitzgerald, 47, and Sophie Whitaker, 28, both of Bainton Drive, Barnsley, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Monday (January 18) charged with robbery.

“Whitaker is also charged with four counts of fraud.

“Both have been remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court on February 15.”
