COUNCIL bosses have urged motorists to drive safely as a yellow weather warning is in place for the weekend.

Gritters were out in force last night to make sure the roads are safe as temperatures are set to plummet to -4c tonight with a change of snow and ice throughout the weekend.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “Please bear with us if we have heavy ice or snowfall. We want the roads clear as much as you do, but the grit takes time to work and our gritters have to cover a lot of miles.

“Drive carefully, and please check that you’ve left enough space for the gritters to pass if you’re parked on our main gritting routes.”
