COUNCIL bosses have released a survey to help direct the focus of a new, proposed primary school near Barugh Green.

The proposed 315-place primary school will sit on the MU1 development site between Gawber, Higham, Pogmoor and Barugh Green and is expected to open in 2023.

The council aims to generate feedback on what residents would like to see in the new school and have released a survey to help steer the focus of the school.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “Due to the level of housing development on this site there is a need to provide a new primary school in order to make sure that the Local Authority can fulfil its statutory duty to provide sufficient good quality school places if the planning application is approved.

“Please note though that the consultation is not about whether you feel that the school should go ahead as this has already been determined as part of the Local Plan. The purpose is to seek your views about what should be the key features of a new school so that we can use this to identify a suitable multi-academy trust to run the school if the planning application for the development is agreed.”

The consultation period will be available until February 12 at 5pm.
