A WREATH was laid by the Mayor of Barnsley at the town’s HM Armed Forces Walkway last week to remember serving members who were unable to return home for Christmas.
The dedicated space, located on Westgate by the college, was created for families and friends to remember those who have and are currently serving.
Since its launch last November, a further six flagstones have been laid featuring the names, service and regiments of local servicemen and women.
Mayor Caroline Makinson said: “Although we were unable to raise the curtain on the new flagstones this year, we wanted to pay tribute to our armed forces and their families during this time.
“Christmas is a time for family, and it’s important that we acknowledge those who won’t be home over the festive period, not only those who lost their lives to conflict but also those who continue to serve our country.”
