AS the snowy and cold weather is set to continue throughout the weekend, council bosses are urging vulnerable or elderly residents to stay safe and warm this winter.
Barnsley Council has offered advice to help keep elderly residents on their feet – which could help prevent serious health complications.
This includes:
-
Regular check-ups with your GP to help reduce dizzy spells and poor balance
-
Avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol
-
Clearing clutter e.g. trailing wires, rugs, uneven floors
-
Properly fitted shoes
Support is also available for residents to help compare energy providers to help keep homes warm as temperatures plummet.
The council can also help residents to heat their homes more effectively and can help provide gas central heating to anyone who heats their home with coal, electric, or gas fires.
