A BIRDWELL cleaner who ‘stops at nothing’ to do her job has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award in the Community Hero category.
Tracey Myers, 53, of Vernon Street, currently works as a cleaner at Royal Court residential home in Hoyland but, even before she began work there, Tracey worked continuously throughout the pandemic.
She said: “At the start of the pandemic I was working in a warehouse when I was furloughed because it was something to do with healthcare – I’d gone from working part-time to full-time.
“I started working at the care home as a cleaner about a month ago and it’s all going well so far – but it is quite hard sometimes to keep upbeat because of the atmosphere around coronavirus.
“It’s all about getting to grips with with everything because the hours are really long but you’ve just got to get on with it like everyone else.”
Tracey’s fiancé Tony Fieldsend, who submitted the nomination, added: “She works in a care home as a cleaner – I know it’s not the same as working in a hospital but the amount of work and the hours she does is unbelievable.
“She still goes into work even even though she is feeling down at times, nothing stops her from doing her job – I love her to bits.”
Upon hearing of her nomination, Tracey added: “It’s really nice that someone’s nominated me for the award because it must show that you’re doing something right.”
