GROUPS and organisations who meet in Wombwell, Hemingfield or Jump have been encouraged to apply for cash help from the Captain Allott’s Charity.

The charity was created to ensure donations were made to worthy local causes in these areas.

Captain Allott left behind his large house to the community which was sold by the local authority and money was put into a special fund.

Since then, the fund has helped a number of local groups and organisations, such as sports clubs, churches and schools.

Any project will be considered for grants up to a maximum of £400 - preference will be given to those who show a willingness to raise money of their own to help achieve an objective.

The deadline for completed forms is January 6, and applications will be considered on January 27 at the charity’s meeting.

To apply, groups can request an application form from the secretary to the Allott’s charity here.
