SPEED operations across the borough this week helped to check more than 400 vehicles to help lower speeding instances across the borough.

The operations were carried out by South Yorkshire Police across Sheffield Road in Birdwell, and Wath Road in Elsecar.

On Sheffield Road, near the Rockley Avenue junction 179 vehicles were checked and two vehicles failed to stick to the 40mph speed limit.

A further 208 vehicles were checked near to Birdwell Primary School and five vehicles were reported for speeding.

In Elsecar, near to the heritage centre, 73 vehicles were checked and five were found to be travelling above the 30mph speed limit.

Shaun McDermott, from Barnsley South Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “With only five actionable offences out of 460 checked vehicles, I'd say this is extremely positive, and clearly highlights that the vast majority of motorists are driving with care.”
