CORONAVIRUS testing centres across the borough will be open throughout the Christmas period for anyone who experiences symptoms of the virus.

Local testing centres will remain open seven-days-a-week for pre-booked tests.

You can only get a free NHS test if:

  • You have a high temperature

  • You have a new, continuous cough

  • You've lost your sense of smell or taste or it's changed

  • You've been asked to get a test by the council

  • You've been asked to get a test to confirm a positive result

Barnsley Council also provides a coronavirus support service to help and offer people advice and support if you have to self-isolate.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “If you test positive for Covid-19, an advisor from Barnsley Council's Covid-19 support service will contact you to offer support during your isolation and to signpost you to additional help you may need.

“You will be contacted by phone and calls will come from 01226 774666.

“We will ask you for you name, date of birth, who you live with, any places you have been, and names and contact details of close contacts.

“We will not ask you for bank details or to set up a PIN over the phone.”
