GRAFFITI on a Monk Bretton welcome sign sparked outrage as residents rallied to clean it up following repeated incidents.

Last week, a team of volunteers who live near the sign on Rotherham Road, cleaned and repainted the sign and planted dozens of flowers in the area to restore it back to its original state.

The sign, which last month was targeted after thieves stole plants from the area, has been damaged by graffiti.

Coun Steve Green, who represents Monk Bretton, has since replaced the flowers out of his own pocket to restore the greenery.

The volunteers removed and covered the graffiti and gave it a clean to repair the damage caused.
